Windmills & Fencelines

R-186.  Nevada Windmill #1B.  In northwest Nevada, several miles south of highway 50, “America’s Loneliest Highway.” The wagon-track road leading to this windmill was via an un-gated cattle-guard entry. The blades have been disconnected, the ranch relying on the red gas-powered pump to draw the water up.

R-192. Nevada Windmill #2.  In northwest Nevada. The "Buckeroo State". Almost missed the light altogether, because of stopping off at the Diamond Bar Restaurant back at Denio Junction. It was late in the day, and we spent too much time "whoopin' it up" with six cowboys and one cowgirl, all bellied up at the bar. Just kidding. But there a half dozen cowboys and one cowgirl, and I wish we had lingered awhile longer, over two beers instead of one.

R-134. Burr Trail Fenceline, No. 1A. This is along part of the old Burr Trail cattle-drive trail in southern Utah. The road begins at the small town of Boulder, and ends near the ferry crossing at the Colorado River. Maggie and I first drove the Burr Trail Road in 2001. A yellow sign still warns drivers, "DIRT ROAD 75 MILES. TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN RISK", even though 35 miles or so has since been paved.Add 5x7 print to cart - $5.00

R-122. Montana Fenceline. Along the Yellowstone River in northeastern Montana. In the area of the famous Spotted Ass Ranch. Seventy miles of dirt road, somewhere between Miles City and the town of Custer. Met one other vehicle - a ranch pickup truck - in the three-hour meandering drive. A pleasant morning.

R-116. Line Camp Windmill. On a ranch in southwest Colorado, along the McElmo River. Never did get used to climbing through, under, or over barbed wire fences regarding ranches we didn't have permission to go onto. I don't recommend you do that. I recall a sign in Arizona, along the Mexican border. "NO TRESPASSING! VIOLATORS WILL BE SHOT. SURVIVORS WILL BE PROSECUTED."
